Home BW | Zeist

In the country side around Zeist, ATELIERFRONT is working on a biobased and vapour-permeable (dampopen) dwelling that features both interior and exterior living spaces. On the site of a former pigfarm, next to an orchard, two long barn-shaped volumes adjacent to eachother form a house that is both surprising and logical. Long views towards the landscape and optimal orientation towards the sun, create generous living spaces year round. The large roof provides plenty of shade.

The timber construction will be visible both internally and externally and will be clad with biobased materials such as clay plaster and insulated with flax. The home will provide an optimal internal climate: due to the breathablity of the materials used, the building can store and exhume moisture, which will make for a comfortable and healty indoor climate.

The building will be very energy efficient, we are aiming for carbon free in use. The materials used will, due to their renewable and bio-based nature, also store plenty of co2.
