Home DS | Baambrugge

A young family was looking for more space. They bought the backside of an old farm in the center of the village conservation area of Baambrugge. The old farm had been split up into two dwellings and altered and extended a couple of times over the years.

To make this small dwelling suitable for their family we extended it with a spacious living area of around 60 m2. Both the old farm and the new extension are simple volumes with an angled roof, but it is not an ordinary house, however.

The extension is smartly positioned between the existing monumental surroundings. The sunny side of the house has an open façade which makes a fantastic connection with the luscious green garden. On warm days large glazed doors give the opportunity to create a beautiful indoor outdoor way of living. The overstep provides shade on the terrace and inside. The street side of the house has a more closed character to provide privacy.

The large new living area, despite strong geometry, is still cosy and intimate due to its angled roof, but has a much more light and open character than the old farm part of the house, which houses the bedrooms, bathrooms and study.

In the detailing the house is refined and generous, but the materialization is done with simple and budget friendly materials. Beautiful cemented brickwork relates to the local historic architecture.
